Forbes Defends Ecigs Against Criticism From “Health Fascists”
Steve Forbes doesn’t mind speaking his mind, even when his opinions are controversial. This week, he weighed in on the electronic cigarette debate and showed his unashamed support for the vaping industry, calling ecigs “a lifesaver that health fascists want to kill”. He pointed out that the lack of understanding about the new technology was no reason for the government to impose rules and restrictions to stop progress, especially when so many lives are at risk for death and disease related to tobacco use.
Forbes wrote that ecigs deserved better treatment than they receive from regulators and reporters. “One breakthrough that gets absolutely no respect – in fact, it’s aroused intense hostility from people who should know better – is the invention of e-cigarettes,” he wrote. “These battery-powered vaporizers contain nicotine and give users the feeling that they’re smoking. But the beauty of them is that there’s no smoke involved. No smoke is going into anyone’s lungs.”
While critics insist that ecigs are dangerous and could act as a gateway to tobacco use, Forbes said that is absolute nonsense. “Without a shred of credible evidence, these nanny-naggers also claim that e-cigs are a gateway to smoking. The real world shows the opposite: Since the invention of e-cigarettes a few years ago, teenage smoking in the US has fallen by half! Teenage use of vaporizers has kept teens from getting hooked on a truly lethal habit!”
Teens aren’t the only ones avoiding tobacco by using ecigs either. Forbes said that many adult smokers were finally able to kick the cigarette habit permanently thanks to the availability of e-cigarettes. “These vaporizers are more effective than patches, gum, or any of the other things smokers who want to quit have employed,” he said.
It’s nice to hear a reasonable voice speak out in support of electronic cigarettes despite many more voices telling us that vaping is dangerous and even sinful. For the smoker that has already switched to e-cigarettes, it is clearly a better alternative that has the power to loosen the shackles that tobacco has on so many Americans.
What will it take for more people to view ecigs like Steve Forbes? How can we shift the image of vaping to make it more positive for our society?
